Yup, they have a 4-door 1st-gen w/ a dead engine that they're going to put portals (Volvo I'm sure) under later this season and it's going to be their "crew truck" whatever that means. Sweet!

Wonder what engine they will put in it? They have a trend of putting Chevy crate engines in about everything I think.

somone should drop them a line and tell them to put a Q45 engine in it.....that way we can all benefit from their mistakes...

Ugh, I get tired of seeing mega-buck builds of anything that rolls into their shop...not that it's not hella cool, just way out of everyone else's reach.

Yep portals are under the mogs.
The VW engine is a 1.6L, and if I am thinking correctly it is out of a Rabbit.

I highly doubt they'll use 'Mog portals. They were saying the were something you've probably never seen, which makes me think they'll be using Volvo C303 portals instead. They're better suited to a smaller truck like a Pathfinder too.

I am almost 100% positive that is what she said.
Brent, we were not saying Mog portals were what they were using, Ty was just asking if portals were the type axle under a mog.

yea
and those axles look awesome...i've never actually looked at portals before. I love how they kinda drop down on the sides for more axle clearance. how do they work? does the axleshaft go from the diff and the other side has a gear on it with a chain that drops down? thats just what im guessing by looking at it.

Portals have reducing gears inside the hub. Rockwell portals seem to be the most common but they are massive so take up lots of room. The Volvo portal axles are more compact than Rockwell and are used on some meduim sized, military utility vehicles that are similar in size and function to a Pinzgauer. I think the hubs on a Pinzgauer are also portals but they are from another planet as Pinz's are 4x4 or 4x6 IFS with coil springs on all wheels.
