Favor and question for Bay Area folk
« on: July 24, 2008, 08:33:31 PM »

I am so broke right now I can't afford labor on this fix, but seeing if anyone is knowledgeable and can help.

my clutch is worn down, and needs replacement, dealer wants 1k. I am waiting to see if I can get a reliable mechanic, who could do it cheaper. Does anyone have a garage with the know hows and capabilities of fixing doing a clutch job. I am able to throw down a few hundred and food and drinks?

Yasha.  Start calling around some of the small shops and ask them what they want for it.  I am willing to bet it would be 50% less than the dealership.  A clutch isn't a difficult item specific to our Nissan's, so a decent shop should be able to fix you up for less than the dealer while providing equal quality.  Seems like you have worn it out with all the wheeling you have done.  I would consider upgrading the clutch components to something that can handle the abuse a little better.  icon_smile  Good luck!

I don't mind taking it to a shop, I just don't want to take it to someone I don't know. I know I will get ripped off, and I have to bet on the guy being an ahole. so i've got to stick with someone who I somewhat know.

Looks like the price of a mechanic is the same as dealer. So the truck is going to the Dealer, Ack

Truck will have a hard time making it to Tahoe. The other guy who just joined the forums is a service writer for a Nissan Dealer in Modesto, Ca he's going to try to write the clutch repair as a good will repair, but most likely will get denied. I'm not in a bad position at all right now. Just would like the truck fixed

Yasha - Call Honda Nissan City at 408-748-1412 and ask for Fred.  He does excellent work and always comes in well below dealer cost.

Web site - http://www.hondaandnissancity.com/

He's located off of 101 near San Jose Airport.
