Here are the details of the Smiley Rock trail run. I did not organize this trail run.
Link to thread on Expo:
http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25625
Where:
Smiley Rock Trail on Mingus Mountain, a portion of the Great Western Trail system. It's 2.5 rated (1 to 5 scale) when dry, slightly more difficult when wet. There is a short rock section that has the potential for damaging body parts. See photos at:
http://www.expeditionportal.com/foru...ht=smiley+rock
Some of the photos show an optional portion of the trail.
When:
Saturday, 25 April 09, Meet and greet at 12:00 noon, depart at 12:30 sharp. The trail takes several hours, perhaps as many as 5 depending on the size of the group.
Why:
An opportunity for Overland Expo attendees to get some seat time on a local scenic trail. If your not signed up for the full event, come out and do a half day trip!
Meeting point:
Safeway 1031 N US Highway 89
Chino Valley, AZ.
From the Yavapai County Fair Grounds take Hwy 89A west to Hwy 89. It's roughly 10 miles north on 89 to Chino Valley. We will be exiting the trail on top of Mingus Mountain on Hwy 89A just miles from the Yavapai County Fairgrounds. The Chino Valley is roughly 30 minutes drive from the event site. We will be accessing the trail via Perkinsville Rd. (County Road 73).
Comms:
2M - 146.46 FWD2, 2M repeater 147.22 PL 162.2 on Mingus Mt.
FRS 1.1
last choice of CB 8
Vehicle Recommendations/Minimums:
Good 31" tires minimum (AT or MT only, no P rated tires), Rear locker recommended, sliders recommended, good recovery points required.
Bring a snack, water, and be prepared for a fun trail!

Hehe.. I think there are only a few that have 2M in the group, so I expect CB is going to be very busy as usual. I only have FRS radios in my survival kit which NEVER get used. Hell, just between you and I Mike, CB will be busy. HAHAHA!

Joe, it is good to see you on the ONAZ board!!! As for Sunday, that sounds good - the more, the merrier. Laurence (NimsoCC) and Mike (InYourFace1650) will be up there on Sat and Sun, so hopefully we can meet up with them, too.

Josh was also saying he might try to make it up on Sunday with you guys. Ted, Josh, you both have my cell phone number, give me a call when you get there.

Sounds like it is going to be Sunday.
Ted, Josh, Joe, Wally, Brenda: Set something up to caravan up there and POST IT UP! Caravans are always cool.

I'd have to talk to my wife and see, it really wasnt a big deal i dont want to make you and Ted change your plans just to fit me in sorry if it came across that way. its just hard with a 3 month old baby to get everything together and out of the house that early and we live in gilbert so its sorta far. I'll ask her though and see what she thinks and post back up!! I'll let you know either way
